Sandy and Steve were determined to be with each other, they each saw the other as a worthy challenge. Sandy saw the immature, sexist, ladies man Steve Farber as a project, a man who could learn from her years of wisdom. She could change him, make him better, and get a really hunky boyfriend in the process. (he had this bad boy thing going for him that she was drawn to)

They were projects to each other, and it was for this reason that they ended up together for as long as they did. She made sure that he would have to go on a date with him, He would make sure the date ended up being as sexy as possible, then she would say no, and he would try again. This is how they went on 34 dates over the course of the summer, and how by the end, not only were they sleeping with each other, but also were firmly embattled in a relationship. She had said "no" one too many times, and he had tried again one to many times, they had spent too much time with each other, gotten in too deep.
