Sandy and Steve were determined to be with each other, they each saw the other as a worthy challenge. Sandy saw the immature, sexist, ladies man Steve Farber as a project, a man who could learn from her years of wisdom. She could change him, make him better, and get a really hunky boyfriend in the process. (he had this bad boy thing going for him that she was drawn to)
Steve wanted to sleep with all the girls on the squad, and he had a thing for redheads, so Sandy was first. There was also something about her that he liked, a challenge. He saw in her what men see in the catholic school girl, a naive innocents which was simmering and ready to explode, it just needed the right trigger.
They were projects to each other, and it was for this reason that they ended up together for as long as they did. She made sure that he would have to go on a date with him, He would make sure the date ended up being as sexy as possible, then she would say no, and he would try again. This is how they went on 34 dates over the course of the summer, and how by the end, not only were they sleeping with each other, but also were firmly embattled in a relationship. She had said "no" one too many times, and he had tried again one to many times, they had spent too much time with each other, gotten in too deep. She was so frustrating that just getting into her pants was enough of a challenge for him, enough of a chase, that he didn't spend any time thinking about the other, easier pussy he could be getting, he wanted her's because by the time he was getting it, it really meant something. Sex with Sandy was a real victory.
For Sandy, it was the exact opposite, she didn't want the sex, that's why she was saying no, but he kept coming back, and the dates got better, and she liked him more, and then in late July when she finally relented, it was the best sex she had ever had. She wanted it, she hated herself sometimes, because she would do stupid things, but she wanted sex with Steve. She found that the more they dated, the better the sex got for her, and then it became not a project of changing him, but of keeping him around, which meant investing more in the relationship.
They would try over the course of the year, but never really could they shake each other.
