You're not alone. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time. It's just so damn petty and childish, and that makes it especially grating when the characters doing the abusing are berating the abused for being "immature" or somesuch - yeah, pot, meet kettle! Particularly when it's obviously the author projecting their own issues (real or otherwise) onto a set of characters apparently engineered just for that purpose...it's dehumanization-by-proxy of the people they think have wronged them, and often for the pettiest slights. You see that kind of thing in amateur web fiction all the time, but lately it seems to be cropping up frequently even in "real" media written by people who ought to know that part of being a good writer is trying to give fair consideration to all of your characters, even the ones you don't like...

This is why I've put as much effort as I have into trying to make oft-abused characters like Sarah and Tiffany sympathetic in their own way, and giving even the bad people a chance to turn things around...it's as much a reaction against this kind of thing as it is finding good story material in them...
