"Hey, there's one guy," said Tiffany.
Sarah turned to see Jon Gibson coming up the sidewalk with his sister Zoe. "Not much of a guy," muttered Sarah.
Melissa stormed toward the Gibsons. "Did you do this?! Did you cast some kind of a spell?!" she demanded.
"Did I do what?" asked Jon, taken aback. How could Melissa Smith have known about --
"Not you," Melissa practically spat at the geeky senior, and turned to his Goth sister. "You. Did you want to turn the world into your own private lesbian fantasy?"
Zoe brushed the black bangs out of her face so she could more effectively glare at the cheerleader. "If I was going to turn the world into my own private lesbian fantasy, you wouldn't be in it."
Sarah and Tiffany had followed Melissa. "What about her freaky blue-haired friend?" Tiffany asked Melissa, apparently not willing to directly address someone of lower social status. "How much magic does she know?"
"Not enough to do whatever it is you're accusing her of doing," Zoe answered.
Jon was looking around for Karyn, but didn't see her. He sighed and interjected, "Would you please explain what's going on here?"
Melissa rolled her eyes at him. "Someone else who didn't notice. I can't believe he's the only guy."
"Only guy?" Jon asked.
Sarah explained, "Everyone older than us and younger than us has just disappeared, and so have all the guys -- except you, I guess. How did we get so lucky?"
Zoe turned to her brother. "Wait, didn't Mom --"
Jon shook his head. "No, she was going to be taking Mikey --"
"To a dentist appointment, yeah --"
"So we were going to walk to school anyway --"
"Now that I think of it, we didn't really see anyone --"
"Yeah, hardly any cars on the --"
Sarah interrupted the siblings' chat. "Be quiet. I'm trying to think."
Zoe hurled the obvious insult: "Don't strain yourself."
Also trying to think, Jon said to himself, "Well, this is interesting." He gasped and clapped his hand over his mouth when he realized what he'd just said.
"What?" asked Melissa, and then her eyes narrowed. "Hey, maybe it is you. This is kind of a male fantasy come true, right? Last guy on Earth?"
"Okay, first of all --" Jon stopped himself before voiced his theory that "on Earth" probably wasn't possible because of the supposed effective range of his wishing rock, not wanting to give away the secret of the rock's existence, even to his sister. He looked around for Karyn again -- what he really wanted to do was discuss the situation privately with her, if indeed Sarah had described the situation accurately.
And then something happened.
