She'd never given it much thought...till everyone walked past her like she wasn't a thought at all. It wasn't like she was invisible. People saw her, went around her...but it was like she was just...one of the crowd.
She stopped the next person she saw. It was Karyn Black. Someone she was not a fan of. But desperate times.
"Excuse me," she said, getting Karyn's attention.
Karyn stopped. "Umm...yeah? Did I bump into you or something? I didn't see you there."
Sarah looked at her. "I need help," she insisted.
"Oh, did you just move here?" Karyn said. "I'm Karyn. What room are you looking for?"
Sarah wanted to scream, but didn't. "I know your name. I didn't just move here," she insisted.
Karyn seemed to be trying to place her. "Oh yeah..." She said. "You're in my English class, right?"
Sarah was. "Yes!!" she said.
"I'm sorry. it's just we've never really talked...What's your name again?"
"Sarah."
"Well, nice talking to you...I have to go meet my friend Jon before class...I'll see you in English." Karyn said, heading off distractedly. She was thinking about the stone.
Sarah tried again with another person. Same thing. Then she tried a teacher, who checked her grading book and seemed surprised that Sarah was even in her class. That turned into a conversation about her grade.
This made no sense. She wasn't sure what to do. She headed to her first class. As she entered, she saw a girl she had never seen before sitting where she usually sat.
