Jon had come all this way, but in the end, he didn't get the stone. Zoe did. And immediately after she stood up, she used it.
Looking at Jon, she said "I wish you'd go to your favorite place and never come back." Zoe didn't like her brother that much and he was a pain a lot of the time, but he was still her brother and she didn't want to harm him. At least this way, he'd be out of the way for awhile.
As the stone glowed, Jon disappeared in a flash, taken to wherever his 'favorite place' was. Of course, that place would be different now, since he had swapped personalities with his sister.
The security guard was stunned. "What ... what happened to him?"
Zoe looked at him and said "I wish that you would put your gun away and forget the last two minutes." The stone glowed and the guard put his gun away and looked dazed, like he wasn't sure where he was. Then, he shook his head and went about his business.
Zoe looked around. There were others who displayed a look of unbelief on their faces. Zoe sighed. "I wish that everyone, except me and Karyn, who saw Jon disappear would forget that Jon was even in the mall at all." The stone glowed and everyone went back to whatever they were doing before.
"It's pretty easy to change people's minds. Isn't it?" Karyn said.
"Yeah." She appeared to be thinking.
"What is it?" Karyn asked.
"How did my brother find out about the stone? Maybe he's right. Maybe grandpa did give it to him. Maybe all of our memories had been changed." She had no idea how right she was.
"Zoe. Do you really think that your grandfather would give the stone to that freak?"
"Well, when you put it that way ..." She sat down in her chair and seemed to think a bit more.
"Zoe, what?" Karyn asked.
"I'm just wondering how he knew about it. And how he found us. As far as I know, Jon hasn't been to this mall in 5 or 6 years. How did he know that we'd be in the food court? Or even know where the food court was?" The food court was just added to the mall two years before.
Karyn knew that those were good questions. But she couldn't think of an answer for them.
"I need to know what Jon knows." She thought for a moment. "I wonder where my wish sent him?"
