I was caught off guard as I fell to the ground. The Protector calmly picked the letter and read it. "So it was that fool that was working with you this whole time. Figures. As a street urchin, becoming a noble lord is only a thing a strong Devil can achieve. We will kill him as soon as we banish you from this world." I called for help and he just chuckled at me. "Don't even bother. How do you think I got in here? Give up." he said. I ran out the room to look for help. I was still was not able to bring down a very angry Protector - Special Ops by myself. When I got to the main hall, I saw that it was full of blood and bodies were strewn around. It was a massacre. I could see that some of them were still alive. That did not matter to me. I ran to my children's rooms and saw that they were tied to their beds and bound up. I was relieved and a more than a bit nervous. They hissed and tried to struggle when they saw me approach them. "I don't kill children. I still couldn't have them wandering around." the Protector said. I was really in a bind. There was no way I was going to be able to take them with me.

Realizing this, I sighed as I drew my rapier. He drew his sword as well. It was one I recognized immediately. "What are even going to do once you get rid of me? Hunt all the others down? You'll never beat all of them. Even if you did somehow, you'll just be killed by your Sage." He glared at me. "If so many of us could be defeated and compromised by the likes of you, maybe we deserved to be destroyed for failure. I feel disgusted for taking this long to get here." he said with venom. There was no point in talking further. I charged him at full speed. Just as he swung his blade, I dove and rolled behind him. I then ran out the room and down the hall. My life was the most important. I could hear him on my heels. As soon as I got outside, I ran for the outer walls of the fort. There was a flight of stairs to stand on the top. The agent was right behind me as I got to the top. He then chased me to the edge where the pathway met the tower. The Protector had a predatory look of triumph on his face. "There's nowhere left to run scum. At least fight with dignity for once." he said. "There's still room to fall!" I replied.

Before he could stop me, I threw myself off the wall. Since I was a harpy I was able to fly away. He started throwing spells at me, but I was not going to wait around to be hit. I had to get away from that place. I decided to go to a city. My house was in Deerhome, so I headed there. I was further than I could walk, so I had to walk half way there. I was accosted by the odd bandit, but I could take care of those. When I got in the city, I went straight to my manor. I made sure to reinforce the entrances and keep all my weapons and potions near me. I stayed like that for a few days. In the meantime I wrote to the others to tell them what happened and to look out for pretty vicious assassination attempts. It took about a week to get all their responses. They were fine and vigilant. I still had not heard back from Daniel, but he was probably just laying low at the moment. He would respond when he could. It was pretty nerve wracking to wait it out. Eventually, I had to suck it up and resume my duties. The base did not actually fall. He must have left the survivors alone as soon as I left the fort. He could be anywhere.
