While waiting for the next letter, I was busy with taking care of the hospitaller base. I was the highest on the food change so it went to me by default. That was totally fine with me. My sons were hyper and needed to be closely watched to make sure that they did not get into trouble. Nagas were hostile NPCs by default, so they could get really aggressive with the other paladins. Since I was their when they hatched, they seemed to follow me as if I was their real father. They were both pretty docile with me. They did enjoy head pats and compliments. They were still too small and young to wield any weapons aside from daggers. Even then, I was not going to give them any until I was sure they could handle it. The Protectors were easy to visit as they were all stationed in Abel's base. They were doing fine. In fact, the act of training and going through the motions of running the base was pretty similar to what they had done in their home base back on the island. Their very high levels meant that all the crusading paladins were the best trained and had some good combat traits and passive buffs.

A month later, I got a new letter from Daniel. "Holy shit, Canan! What you told me was fucking crazy. I always knew those four were crazy, but that is just... insane. But that is not the worse part. The very next day, two of them showed up at my damn house! One even offered to let me fuck them. That was when I knew you were totally telling the truth. I told them I was good and locked the door after I left. I needed to be sure that I could get a letter out to you without my head rolling." It seemed like it really was not the time to go to the island. "The Sage went totally crazy. She decreed that the lower ranks of the Protectors had gone rouge and that they needed to be killed off. I have had to go up against squads of them. The Special Ops guys like Chat and Chien have been active, but new Black Ops members have gotten on the streets. That went on for a week before a Devil attacked the city and the Special Ops were purged and declare traitors. That was when the Black Ops defected. I sent some of them your way. Rank 11 and five Black Ops members. I think I need to get out while the going is good."

The letter ended with "If I'm not dead. I'll see you soon." I leaned back and sighed. I just hoped that he was able to get out in time. If they already were targeting him, it was only a matter of time before they just arrested him on corruption charges. From how he mentioned it, he was blatantly corrupt. The only saving grace was his money and the support of the people he healed. That would not mean shit to a Sage. They could not attack NPCs, but if a new set of uber powerful Protectors flooded the streets, there was nothing that could be done about it. Pollo Island was melting down because of what I helped do. There were no Devils on the island. If there were now, it was only an after thought after the war and defections of several Protectors. "Wait. If two of them died in my house, they must know that I would be the prime suspect for it. Why has no one come for me yet?" I wondered out loud. It was something that I only know thought about. "Your time has come, Devil!" came a voice from the shadows. I leaped back and dodged a strike from a sword. My attacker had a tattoo on his arm. It was Agent XVIII.
