A few in game months later, I received a letter from Daniel. He had taken my advice and bought a house in the rich part of Wishbone City. He also got his position as the captain of the guard. I was very proud of him until I read more of the letter. He immediately got back into contact with the thieve's guild and ran corruption throughout the city. He was making money like crazy. Using that money and influence, he threw it around and got betrothed to the king's niece. "The best part is that the usual people that would look down on me or would try to stop the gravy train are too scared of my record and my rank as a paladin to do anything. All I need to do is heal a wound or
a poor person's illness and everyone just kisses my ass. Even the old guards that give me lip get their ass kick every time were fight." he wrote. I chuckled and decided to write back to him. I asked him to report back what was going on in the island. I was actually curious to know what ever happened with the war with the merpeople around the city. I sent a courier to deliver it to Sir Daniel. He nodded and headed off immediately.

His next letter was not very long. I wondered if he just did not find the topic exciting enough to write much. "The Sage of the island cracked down hard after we left. Most of the guild members are watched like hawks. Even the amount of raids and arrests have increased. They are very lucky to have me on their side. Evidence goes missing here. An alibi comes from there. She sent the Protectors through the streets and they found the merpeople. All the rumors were true after all. They offered me some flesh, but I thought it was bullshit and said no. The guild already made all of their top leaders immortal, but it still would have been nice." he wrote. I laughed at the small misfortune. "With the mermen found and the Sage involved, there's no need for the war to continue. The war was not doing well for their numbers either. So that means peace. The leaders were not punished as they were all immortal. They were just left in the stocks for a week." the letter continued. That seemed to be a very light punishment for all the chaos they caused. I guess the Sage just did not care what the guild was up to.

The next letter came a week later. I was surprised as it was much to soon for my letter to have reached him. The letter was written in a more panicked handwriting. I was concerned. "Things went to shit fast! All of the top members of the guild were killed. They were hung from the neck in the market district. That is impossible. They were all supposed to be immortal. I have seen them come back from being beheaded. The whole city had been on edge. The Sage put the Protectors in charge and gave out a curfew for everyone in the city. What the hell is happening!? I really don't know." I had to tell him all that I could. I told him about the secret failsafe the Protectors had in their asses and that he needed to lay low. I also explained how strong the Sage actually was. "As soon as you read this letter, you must burn it. If you even suspect someone might have read this letter, you must kill them and publicly denounce me in the city as hard as you can. Save yourself. If possible, have a thief write a letter to me instead with your decision if we should keep writing each other." was the header of the letter.
