"Jon!" Sarah's voice filled Jon with dread.
"What did I do this time?"
"That wasn't me," the shoes insisted.
Jon felt a hand on his shoulder and he turned around. "Sarah?"
"You're done, Jon."
"What?"
"I said you're done. You passed. You know what it's like in my shoes, and I'm taking them back now."
"You're taking them--"
"They're already gone," Sarah said, pointing to the Adidas sneakers on Jon's feet. "And so am I."
Jon looked at his shoes, and by the time he looked back up, he was alone in the hallway, more confused than ever.
