"Do it." Jon said to Sarah. She looked confused. Biff looked uncomfortable as he held tightly to the gun.
"What the hell, Jon!?" Zoe screamed.
"I'm serious." Sarah told her.
Jon turned to Zoe. "I'm sorry Zoe but Athena is obviously in on this plan. She probably has been since the beginning." It was Athena's turn to look uncomfortable.
"What do you mean?" Zoe asked.
"She gave us no warning Sarah was approaching the basement. She was present when you saw the cage in the basement. Sarah knows who I am and from the looks of things what the DTH is. This guy," Jon pointed at his imprisoned self, "didn't recognise the DTH, so the only way he got here was with the stone." The look of betrayal slowly appeared on Zoe's face as she began to comprehend. "So if we look at the connection we keep arriving back at Athena."
"You bitch!" Zoe screamed. Athena looked completely unapologetic and a little bit smug.
Sarah began a slow clap. "Oh how very clever of you Jane, Jon or whatever your name is. It doesn't matter. Biff is still blocking the door, has a gun and there are plenty other people in this room you do care about." Finally getting the hint, Biff started waving the gun around. Sarah put her hand out. Jon handed her the DTH. She tried pressing a few buttons. "It looks like a gameboy."
"It won't work for you." Jon told her.
"I suspected as much. I'll have my engineer look at it." Sarah looked up the stairs. "Len!" She shouted. An overweight figure in a white lab coat squeezed passed Biff and slowly waddled down the stairs.
"Leonard?" Zoe said.
"Yes Zoe." He answered while fiddling with his glasses.
"Is that Leonard Drullers from school?" Karyn asked.
"He's my dorky neighbour." Zoe said.
"Mine too." Jon added. "I thought he was more into sci-fi, comics and role playing games. I didn't think he was much of an engineer or a scientist."
Sarah handed Leonard the DTH. "Yes well you can thank Zoe's little rock for making him smarter. He seemed like the perfect choice." She told Jon. She turned back to Leonard. "So can you do it?" She asked.
Leonard examined the DTH. "I believe so, although getting past it's security systems might take some time."
"You're wasting your time Leonard." Jon told him as Leonard continued to examine the device. "You won't get it to work."
"Oh he's not going to make it work." Sarah said. Jon was confused, he couldn't understand what her motive was. "I'm going to get Len to copy it. The device itself might be protected but I'm guessing the technology can be reproduced. Even if I just discover how the power source works, it would make me like the richest person in the world." She turned back to Leonard. "Off you toddle." Leonard started moving towards the stairs and turned round.
"I'm going to take this up to the bedroom that has been converted into a workshop." He said.
"I know that." Sarah said looking a little confused.
"I'm sorry. I felt compelled to say that for some reason." He turned back and continued up the stairs. He was completely unaware why he was reporting where he was taking the DTH. It was due to the in built safety feature that prevented it from being lost.
Jon had one lingering thought. "What I don't understand is, why if you had access to the wishing stone, you used it for fairly trivial stuff. You could have made your own DTH or something like it with a wish."
"Have you any idea how dangerous that stone is?" Jon nodded, thinking of the flower petal dimension where one simple wish had caused reality to completely fold in on itself. "Look at what she did to herself." She pointed at Karyn. "I've seen enough television and movies to know what happens when your wishes are granted too often. I wanted to do the absolute minimum wishing to get hold of something like your device which I knew was a lot more reliable than some stupid stone. I can use it to travel to other dimensions where I can acquire anything I want."
Jon could see Athena didn't look too happy. "Let me guess, your reward for helping Sarah was the stone?" He asked her. She didn't reply but didn't look smug any more.
Sarah laughed. "Oh, I don't care what she does with it. She can wish herself out of existence for all I care but the deal was she doesn't use it till I leave this dimension." She gestured at Biff to approach. "As much fun as this has been. I'm not exactly dressed for travelling." She pointed downwards to her pyjamas. She turned to Biff. "Lock them up. We might still need them later." Biff waved the gun around again and made Karyn, Jon and Zoe walk into the cage. He locked it with a large padlock. Sarah, Athena and Biff disappeared up the stairs.
"I guess you won't be rescuing me then." Imprisoned Jon said to his cell mates.
