Jon left his house hoping that his oversized black-and-red Deadpool T-shirt would obscure the newest additions to his wardrobe, and headed towards the spot here he and Karyn met every morning. He saw her waiting as he approached.
"When you get close enough, insult her," Sarah's voice spoke in Jon's head.
"What?"
"Did I stutter? Out of all realities, both extant and fictional, which have ever existed in this or any other universe, there are precisely zero scenarios wherein the feet in Sarah McMillan's shoes approach Karyn Black, and an insult does not escape the mouth attached to said feet. You don't want to screw this up, trust me."
"I'm not going to insult Karyn," Jon said as he came within earshot of his friend.
"You're not going to do what-now?" Karyn laughed.
"It's now or never, fuckface," Sarah's voice ordered.
"Stop calling me fuckface!" Jon yelled.
"Excuse me?" Karyn balked.
"Good enough," Sarah's voice said.
And Jon found his feet moving without any impetus from his own brain, away from Karyn and towards the school.
As the boy walked away, Karyn could only stand in shock. What had just happened? Did this have something to do with the stone? And what was with Jon's shoes? Karyn was dumbfounded, but by the time she thought to catch up to Jon, he was already approaching another group of students.
