"Hmm," Allison said. "I suppose you're right. She'd just perceive it as random cruelty from an unjust universe, and we would, in effect, be punishing a Sarah who didn't commit the crime. I'd like to see this one tried in a court of law!"
Joy nodded. "It's frustrating, really. I was all geared up to do something to her, and now I don't think we can really justly punish her. Argh. You know, if I were more like her, I'd probably do it anyway, just for cathartic purposes."
"Yeah," Allison said. "On the other hand, it's probably better this way. Somehow I don't think we'd think through the implications of a potential revenge wish very thoroughly."
"Yeah." Joy sighed, and neither of them said anything for a while. Suddenly, there was a low moan. Both girls looked toward the source. Karyn had stirred, and was picking herself up off the floor. "Who..." she murmured, "Who are you? You," she said, pointing to Joy, "you kinda look like a female ver...Oh. My. GOD."
Joy knelt down and placed a hand on Karyn's shoulder. "Are you all right?" she asked. Karyn stared at her. "...Jon?" she whispered. Joy nodded, and Karyn burst into tears.
"Oh God, Jon," she sobbed, "I'm so sorry! I can't believe what I did to you!"
Joy shushed her. "It's alright," she said. "It wasn't your fault. Besides, Allie and I fixed things up."
"What do you mean?" Karyn sniffled. "You're still girls; how is that 'fixed?'"
Joy smiled. "Well, for starters, we made Sarah forget about the stone and all the events related to it. Believe it or not, only the three of us remember Jon and Alan. Which brings me to the next point; we set up normal-" She glanced over at Allison, who was fondling her new cat-ears while her tail twitched around in back of her. "Semi-normal lives for ourselves. We're both straight teenage girls, but otherwise pretty much ourselves the way we've always been. It's going to take some getting used to, but we figured this would be best in the long run."
Karyn smiled. "You're really not holding this against me?"
Allison and Joy shook their heads emphatically. Karyn brightened. "Then speaking of 'getting used to,'" she said, "now that you're both girls and I can get it past my folks, I'm having the two of you over for a slumber party, and we'll take the opportunity to show you the ropes."
