Now that they had time to themselves to think and made it inside the school, Jon began to think about what had happened to them. He had always thought very highly of spiders since he was a kid. He would rescue spiders from people that wanted to kill them and released them outside. He thought the widow spiders were the coolest looking. However, he always thought it was the females that had the better end of the deal. He flinched when he realized what type of body he had and what happened to him.
Jon turned to her and said "I think I know why we ended up like this."
Karyn shrugged. "It might have something to do with Zoe's wish. Everyone firmly believes in magic, and some are practicing it. Maybe she wished for magical creatures too."
Jon agreed, but asked "I think it has to do with our inner desires. What we wanted to be."
Karyn stopped and Jon waited as well. "So you wanted to be like this deep down? Is that what you're telling me. A drider."
Jon scoffed and said "Okay, I like spiders alright!? I didn't know it'd be this deep though. And what about you? You wanted to change. And a werewolf, no less?"
Karyn scrunched her shaggy eyebrows and growled. "What's wrong with werewolves?"
"N-nothing, really! Get a grip, okay?" Jon said with his arms raised defensively.
Her features eased a bit. "Good. To answer your question, I'd always had a thing for werewolves. Anyway, I'd fantasized about being one a couple of times. Guess I wanted it more than I thought."
Jon nodded, relaxing. "You're not the only one who wanted to be something else."
Karyn turned to face the hall, and saw a variety of creatures mingling with the human students: a centaur, two satyrs, several elves, even a humanoid dragon! That was just the tip of the iceberg. There was every type of creature they could name- and several that they could not- roaming the halls. It was a bit overwhelming for the both of them. Karyn pulled Jon to the side and they watched the other students walk by for a minute.
"Wow," she whispered. "Zoe did all this?"
"She had to, unless she lost it or it was stolen. That's why we need to get to her and take back the stone as soon as possible."
Karyn nodded. "No problem." She sniffed the air, double-checking the direction of the stairwell.
