I had a chance to decide whether or not to accept the parameters set. I decided not to edit it aside from adding a bit more muscle tone. I didn't even look at the menus again. There were no other changes I wanted to make. It was time to get going and play the game. I was surprised as my body morphed. The mirror let me see my whole body at once. It was not that strange. I always had this type of body. Taking a few steps was exciting. I did things like this often and I loved it. I looked around and saw a door. I walked to it and put my hand on the knob. A popup appeared in front of me saying "You are leaving the character creation room. You will not be allowed to return here again. Are you sure you wish to leave?". I knew that lots of time had already passed. I wanted to hurry and find Suzie. I turned the knob and opened the door. It was a bright white light I could not see through. I guessed I was supposed to walk just through it to get to the game. I did and continued on for what felt like 10 seconds. The world needed to load, I guessed.

My eyes blinked and I was suddenly in an empty, alleyway. It was dingy and l walked to the street. I looked around for a few minutes. This setting did not track at all with what I was told by Suzie or what I had read myself in the developers' blogs. The streets had cars driving by and the people on the streets were wearing modern clothes that I saw in the real world. I had to look at the menu and look at where I was. When I saw that I was in an entirely different world, I was upset. "Shit! Where the hell am I then!?" I said as I bit my thumbnail. I looked again and saw that the world of Machinima was a sci-fi mecha setting for players into that sort of thing. I was not against the idea, so it was not all bad. Some of my favorite anime shared the setting. Looking closer at the menu's built in encyclopedia, the planet had 5 major factions and several other minor nations. Only the five nations had the power and resources to build mechas. Machinima was locked in a planet wide cold war. The map said that I currently was in the Kingdom of Wendalia. It was one of the 5 major factions.

Wendalia was an absolute monarchy. They specialized in trade and diplomacy. It kept the capitol flowing in and they were not hated by the other factions. It allowed them to make a sizable and expanding fleet of mechas. That was a relief, I wouldn't want to be in a place without them. There were three types of mechas: Battle, at 16.5 ft; the Elite at 130 ft; and the Imperial at 265 ft. There were three main ethnicities in the kingdom. The Drak were the ruling ethnic group with 66.7% of the population. Draks had black hair and dark gray eyes. The Muro people made up 11.2% of the kingdom and hailed from the mountains. They were known for their purple hair and eyes as well as being the some of best special forces the kingdom had ever seen. The Loko had pink hair and eyes and made up 15.1% of Wendalia. They were river masters, fishermen and excelled in the water. The remaining 7% were known as the Fojun, a heterodox mix of different peoples that were in the kingdom for one reason or another. They were mostly looked down on for not being pure blooded. I was one of them.

Not everyone in the world could operate the mechas. You needed to have the ability to pilot in your genetic code. Battle mechas were operated by a single pilot. It was a simple arrangement. The central cockpit controlled the whole thing. The Elite and Imperial mechas needed two pilots of the same gender to pilot. One of the pilots, called the Omega, controlled the durability and adaptability of the mecha. The other, known as the Alpha, was the pilot in charge of the combat and maneuvering. The Omegas were basically in doggy style while the Alpha sat up straight between their legs. There were Alphas, Omegas, and Switches. Alphas and omegas were locked in their roles and could not cross over. Switches could hold both roles. Players were default Switches unless manually set in character creation. They were the most diverse and open to play, but it had a big downside. There were too many skill trees to max out, so a switch would be a jack of all trades and a master of either one to the detriment of all others, or none but competent in all the basic skills.

For example, a person who could not pilot- called a Null- had three skill trees: Defensive Combat, Offensive Combat, and Constitution. A basic Omega build had six of them: Defensive Combat, Offensive Combat, Constitution, Operation, Durability, and Adaptability. A standard Alpha also had six trees: Defensive Combat, Offensive Combat, Constitution, Mecha Combat, Mecha Weaponry and Agility. That meant a Switch had nine skill trees to deal with. Each perk on the tree had five stars to players to put skill points in. Once enough stars was lit up (2 for level 2, 3 for level 3 etc.), the next perk would be unlocked for allocating. My specialties were spread out between four trees. They had been chosen during character creation and came from the inital pool of points I had. Two were for when I was outside a mecha, one was for the Omega Durability tree and the other was for the Alpha Mecha Weaponry tree. I checked my trees and I could see them light up. At level 1, the player was given five skill points to allocate. Primes, or pilots with highly potent genes, also had 5 skill points to set in the skills at the beginning of the game. It was a sort of easy mode. Since it was the first week, there was a perk of having an additional five skill points. That meant I had eleven left to allocate.
