"I wish I'd get an A on that science test I have to take today, because I remembered the material," Jon said. The stone glowed. Part of him didn't want to make that wish, because it almost felt like cheating, but if he could get an A on the test, he'd pass the class for sure. And he didn't want to take the class over again.
The stone flashed. Then, a moment later, a shimmering wave appeared, passing through him and the room, like some sort of weird aftershock.
Jon turned, confused. And suddenly, the stone was gone, and he was...he looked over at the mirror. He was...black?
He looked completely different. He'd gone from a fairly generic Caucasian to an African American version of himself. He reached for an old family photo he kept...from before his Dad passed away. Dad looked pretty much the same, but his Mom was gone, replaced by a strange black woman...which explained why he, Zoe, and Mikey looked different...although Mikey was a baby when the picture was taken.
How could wishing to do well on a test have anything to do with having a different Mom? He'd better find out before he tried to fix this, or he could make it worse. He'd better call Karyn.
