Sam looked at his friends and said "Okay. I know before was a trap, but I think it's different now". Norman adjusted his glasses and glared at him. Sam raised his hands up. "I'm saying this is clearly bad, right? You're not going to just let him get beat up?" "That is exactly what I'm going to do?" he replied. Cole sighed and said "What could we even do about it?". I spoke up and said "I think we can try to save Muri. Don't you want to be the heroes at least sometimes? Or, maybe even the greatest thieves to ever live?". They all perked up. "What are you talking about? Thieves can't be heroes" Jessie said. I smirked. "It all depends on who is asking. I think saving a creature that's being abused is heroic. And if we took him back with us, we could say the thieves' guild stole a merman from the sea" I said. Sam's eyes sparkled and said "Yep. I agree with Bird Boy! That makes all the sense I need. I say we're doing it". He drew his sword and approached the water. I did the same. The others except Jessie drew weapons as well. She was totally unarmed.
Dyno looked down at Muri. "I'll let you go for now because I can punish you later. But if you betray me, I'll rip your throat out!" he snarled at his brother before he allowed him up. Muri did get up and swam some distance from him. He didn't look anywhere near as confident as he did before. Sam, Cole, Norman and I got in the water. It was pretty encouraging. Jessie also came with us. We waded up to our knees in the ocean. Sam charged even further out and Cole went after him. Norman warned them to be careful. Dyno smirked as he goaded them. I was not going to go any further. Sam engaged Dyno and swiped at him with his blade. The merman dodged and mocked him. "Come further to open waters. I dare you". Norman smiled and said "Why do you need to wait. I'm right here". He continued to slash and stab at him. Cole had two shortswords that he was slashing with. Norman had a crossbow and held Muri at bay. Jessie raised her arms up and in the air. She chanted before a fist sized glittering and sparkling white ball flew from her hands quickly towards him.
As soon as it touched his forehead, Muri's eyes began to droop. "What did you d-" he muttered before he fell forward and his face was half sticking out of the water. I had assumed that mermen would not be able to be put to sleep. It was not the case however. Jessie smiled and hopped in the air in happiness before she pulled Norman in for a hug. He smiled as he held her close. Dyno looked scared and tried to go to him but I was in the way. "You lose. Give up and give us some of your flesh to eat" I demanded. He blanched and said "You want to eat us!? The elders said you were barbarians, but I didn't know it continued to this day!" Sam said "It's just a legend that old people say. Some of your flesh gives humans immortality". Dyno glared and said "Muri is my brother! You can't have him!" Norman adjusted his glasses again. They shined in the moonlight and said "You were trying to attack him in front of us. Humans don't abuse their family out in the open". Dyno snarled at him and said "You are going to cause a war between our people. Don't you understand that!?" Sam only smiled.
He looked the red merman in the face and said "Lots of things go missing during a war. We'll be the ones to profit from it. "What did you think was going to happen after all the times you stole our sailors and fishermen?" Cole added with a sneer. "Last chance. What are you going to do?" Dyno glare at us and said "I'll remember your faces. I'll make sure your bones rot at the bottom of the sea for this!" He turned to swim away when Norman shot him. He shot a bolt through his tail and it pinned him to the beach. He howled in pain. "Sorry. Letting with a grudge against me go never made sense to me" Norman said coldly as he loaded another bolt. Dyno tried to free his tail, but only got shot in the right shoulder. "Jessie. Put him to sleep. Norman and Cole can bring two large fish tanks to carry them in". Jessie chanted another spell and he was put to sleep. Sam went and yanked the bolt out so he could drag Dyno out of the water. I did the same with Muri. Jessie also cast a healing spell on Dyno. The others left and returned an hour later. Several more members came with them.
