Gilmore's fingers tapped away at the keys, setting his plan into motion. First, he shrank the scope of the Kayla template, applying it only to the Watson family and returning the rest of the town to normal... for now. Hopefully this would reduce the strain on his processors and increase that David character's saturation level. Applying the changes, he turned his attention to the readouts. The numbers creeped up, slowly at first, then faster and faster. 69%... 74%... 83%... 95%... success! The template now appeared to be holding at 100%. He watched the video feed for a moment.
David's face had completely lost any hint of confusion. He confidently applied his eyeliner with a steady hand, then picked up a curling iron and started twisting his now long blonde locks around it. Gilmore scanned the thought monitors for any doubts - it seemed his only concern at the moment was setting his curls with just the right amount of bounce.
"Hurry up Kayla!" three voices called in unison from outside the room.
"Relax, Kayla, I'm almost ready!" David responded. Good, Gilmore thought, No name confusion. Now he could monitor David for any fluctuations. If his saturation dipped again, he'd hopefully find a cause. Finally finishing his hair and checking his outfit one more time, David headed downstairs to the rest of his Kayla-fied family. The four hopped into their car and took off towards the mall, singing along to some mindless pop song.
Gilmore muted the video feed and turned to another monitor, bringing the Hillsburg Mall up on the display. Kayla was going to be meeting Brian there, but there was no Brian... at least not yet. When the whole town was Kayla'd, Brian was just a series of AI generated text messages and false memories. But the Kaylas were expecting to meet somebody at the mall, and Dr. Gilmore certainly didn't want to break their hearts.
He pulled up a new template - Brian: stereotypical jock, high school senior, homecoming king, and Kayla's boyfriend. He scanned the mall, looking for targets to apply the Brian template to. He briefly wondered how to proceed... should he keep things simple and apply the template to a single person, or find a new foursome to mess with so there'd be a Brian for each Kayla?
