Doctor Gilmore sat behind his desk and watched the readings on David Watson. There was something funny going on with the young man. Sure, the Kayla template had worked to a degree on him, but for some reason full saturation wasn't happening.
Flicking a switch, the doctor eliminated David from the town-wide readout, confirming his suspicions. Everyone else was at full saturation. This David Watson character, for some reason, was able to resist.
He dialed up David's readouts again, and turned on a monitor, showing a visual of David's whereabouts. Sixty-seven percent, read the saturation meter. How was he doing it? Obviously something special was going on with this kid, but Doctor Gilmore had other, more important things to work on.
Staring at the monitor, he could see that David was applying make-up, just as every other Kayla did that morning, but David's face seemed confused as he did it. The doctor knew that this boy would vex him, that this problem would tie him up for hours, maybe even days, keeping him from valuable social experiments, new discoveries, possibly even the Nobel prize!
He could try another template. The prostitute template seemed to work well on the boy. So did the cheerleader. Doctor Gilmore knew that this wouldn't work, though. Anything he tried, David would have a chance of spoiling his results. Even the small margin of error that the boy represented was too much.
That's when it hit him. Every good experiment needs a control group! And here was the perfect control, landing right in his lap! An evil, hungry grin grew on Doctor Gilmore's face. He knew just the experiment to run, and couldn't wait to see how David would react.
