We went to the southern quadrant. Suzie dragged me along to the stone building that the branch was using. Suzie gave me a run down on how it worked. I wasn't sure exactly how the guild worked. I was focused on the Order of Lancelot. "We can go buy NPCs to come with us. I think we should each buy one. That way we will have a good party size. Four is pretty good. Over six gets clunky. The rates go up depending on how strong you want them to be. The Adventurer's guild have six tiers of mercenaries: Coal, Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond". I nodded in understanding. A question entered my mind. "You said that you can buy some of the NPCs for help. It's pretty convenient. What about the players? Can they join the guild?" I asked. Suzie shook her head. She said "No. Players join the Adventurers Guild. It is really segregated to ensure that both the NPCs and Players can join in on missions fairly".

She continued and said "The lore is that the adventuring NPCs are still pretty distrusting of us. They don't want to become obsolete. Adventurer's guild gets quests that influence the fate of the city or world. They are structured the same way". I thought it was interesting. We stepped inside and went to the front desk. The receptionist was a human female. She looked surprised when we approached before she composed herself. "Good Afternoon. I welcome you, master and mistress, to the Epic City branch of the Adventurer's Guild" she said politely. Suzie said "We got a job from the garrison. We need two Coal mercs to get ready. We want to leave for Plussel Village as soon as possible." She blinked and replied "We certainly have Coal ranked mercenaries for you. Would you like to go through our catalogue?" I said yes. Suzie looked surprised. It seemed like she was going to say no. She smiled at me and pulled out a binder.

The binder had all the mercenaries that were based in the city. There were 20 coal ranks, 13 copper ranks, 7 bronze ranks, 6 silver ranks, 4 gold ranks, and 1 platinum rank. They all lived in the city. Since Suzie had made the decision to buy coal ranks, I kept to that section of the binder. Among the coal ranks there were 11 humans, 5 elves, 2 centaurs and 2 beastkin. I was interested in hiring a centaur as I was a zebra-taur. There was a young one with a two handed battleaxe. The other was an older female with a glaive. There were also a cat boy and a lizard girl. I tried to ask her opinion on them but she held her hands up. "I don't care David. Just pick the two that you think can help out the most" she said. Well, the centaur with the battleaxe was a definite get. Not only would he be helpful in a fight, but he would be able to travel fast. The rest of the adventurers were a toss up. He decided to pick one of the remaining 19 at random.
