"Aha! This might do it!" John said to nobody as he picked up the dusty device. He'd been rummaging through his cluttered shelves for what seemed like an hour after finally shaking the wooziness from his fall earlier. He had to find that mosquito before it started uncontrollably copying minds! And he didn't dare imagine what could happen if the mosquito managed to breed...
Luckily he'd found one of his old inventions - a biotracker that could locate and track any animal based on its genetic signature. He already had the mosquito's DNA on file - a quick bit of fiddling and the small device lit up in his hand, a beacon flashing on it's small screen.
"Let's see... Ah! It seems my little creation is still in the building!" The tracker couldn't pinpoint an exact location, but it was indicating that the mosquito was straight above him. It might still take a while - he'd have to check every floor. But John figured he'd start to notice the effects once he got closer.
Which reminded him... he suddenly darted to the safe where he kept his most important items. Twisting in the combination and swinging the door open he grabbed what looked like a few wireless earbuds and hooked one into his right ear. These would interrupt the quantum patterns preventing people from noticing the changes. Now he'd actually be able to tell if anyone was acting differently - though he wasn't sure how much it would help him if he got bit.
He put three other earpieces in his lab coat pocket in case he needed anyone's help along the way, then took off towards the elevator, following the beacon on his tracker. He just wished he had some bug spray.
Meanwhile, Stephen Masterson was settling in for his second meeting of the afternoon...
