At the same time, another person was also walking through the neighborhood. In fact, it was the woman from the store who had been ensnared by the runaway magical phenomenon. Her name was Bethany Black, the mother of none other than Karyn Black, the former Jon Gibson's former best friend. She had been at the store to do a little morning shopping, unable to even fathom that her going there would cause her life to completely change in some way.
Tim Brant, as it turned out, would eventually become someone very similar to Bethany, which was kind of funny, considering Tim was one of Karyn's closest friends and he was about to slowly become more like her own mother.
Karyn was having a rather hard day. She'd been distracted all morning. She suspected it had something to do with Zendaya's wishing stone. Zendaya was her best friend...she wouldn't have wished for something affecting Karyn without her knowing, would she? As the period ended, she headed toward her locker, passing Zendaya's sister in the hall, Gena. She was glad that Zendaya had gotten the wishing stone...Gena was too unstable to have such a dangerous object.
She spotted Zendaya hurrying, but not running...that would be against the rules, through the hall. She stopped her. "What's going on with you?" She asked. "I haven't seen you all day."
"The Principal had me take this Middle Schooler back to her school...I'm not sure how she got over here. And that was after Mikey disappeared...and I had to go look for him."
"Where was he?"
Zendaya frowned. "I don't really know..." she admitted."He's been acting weird all day. I saw him when I went over to the middle school...he was with his friends...seemed normal enough."
"I've been having a weird day too...I thought maybe..." she started.
The bell started to ring. "You'll have to tell me later," Zendaya said. "Can't be late." She power walked off.
Karyn sighed and headed to her next class, nearly bumping into Sarah McMillan and froze. Since she'd made a wish that involved Sarah, her mind struggled to reconcile that with what she saw in front of her.
