Drew slowly woke up and, for a second, did not know where he was. Slowly it came back to him. He was at the ice rink in one of the executive suites overlooking the rink. The rink served as the hockey arena for the college teams, so there were nicer suites with couches in them for high-paying customers.
He could tell the power was back on at the rink, and could see that the couch Kate had slept on was empty. He got up slowly and went to look for her.
Kate was by the main entrance doors to the rink. Drew looked out and was amazed at what he saw.
The entire island was flooded. Storm clouds still filled the sky, and he could tell it was raining slightly. He could also tell that the bridges off the island were completely swamped. They would not be able to even leave the rink, and were most likely stuck there for some time.
Kate looked even more nervous than she had last night. Drew slowly put his arm around her to comfort her, and she melted into his embrace.
"I'm so sorry, Drew. Now we're both stuck here "
"Hey, don't worry, Kate. We'll be fine. It was my decision to stay here with you, so it's my fault I'm stuck. Now, let's get some breakfast from the snack bar."
"OK," Kate said, wiping a tear from her face.
Drew called the rink manager and told him that they were stuck at the rink. The manager informed Drew that the entire area was flooded and they would probably be stuck at the rink for a couple of days. The river had risen several feet above normal flood levels and more rain was expected, so he told the two to make themselves at home and they wouldn't have their pay docked for what they ate.
As he put his cell phone back in his pocket, Drew felt something else in his jacket. He removed the Medallion of Zulu, suddenly remembering he had purchased it the day before. He was now faced with a decision: keep it to himself, or tell Kate about it and explore its abilities at the rink while they were stuck?
