"You did what?!"
Matt looked at the rabbit girl not too sure what to say or do. He had gone to her house, and rang the bell... and was now looking at a pretty gorgeous 'bunny babe', if he was any judge. "We- we got invited to a party. Come on you always used to like parties." He smiled looking to his old friend. He tried to be nonchalant about it. This was a good thing! He was doing his friend a favor and he was going to get a lot of things out of it too.
The rabbit girl fumed a bit, her expressive ears flattening a little. "Well- yes that is true, but Matt... my whole outlook in life has done a complete one eighty and into the stratosphere over the last twenty four hours. You want me to go to a party like nothing has even happened? I don't even think I can. I mean- I don't even have clothes for this." How would she act? How would she talk to people? What name would she even use!
"Uh- well- I'm sure you can find something nice to wear. I bet you could look really nice if you wanted to."
David frowned a bit at that as she looked down at herself. She never really thought about 'dressing to impress'... not to mention that she seemed to be speeding through her teenage years. It was almost reflecting her growing confidence in this strange and surreal situation she found herself in. She didn't want to be the kind of girl that was a shut in... but... going to a party? A frat party, of all things? As.. a bunny girl? It was a weird and out of the blue invitation. She had heard it was easier for girls to get invitations but... this was awfully quick.
"Come on, it'll be fun!" Matt said earnestly. "Dean's said we can hang out, and meet some of the others there. It's just a bunch of guys and gals in a party."
"Why don't you go without me?"
Matt slumped his shoulders. "It's... kinda only if we both go." He admitted sheepishly.
David sighed. This seemed awfully soon but... it looked like Matt really wanted to go. "I'll.. go for a little bit, but I don't want to stay too long. Alright?"
Matt smiled. "Oh you're the best David! I promise, we just go there no more then an hour. We'll hang out with the cool kids and see what we can get from it."
"I'll... sort out something to wear."
Matt nodded. "Oh yeah- I'm sure you'll look great!" He left David's house quickly.
David decided to go to the party, dressed modestly. A simple sweater, and a long dress. She didn't have any shoes, of course. Still she had toyed with the idea of wearing some kind of stocking, but she didn't like the effect. Her mother thought her final appearance looked fine for a small party.
Matt was at the corner of the house, and waved her over. "Oh.. hey," he said looking at how she was dressed. "I thought you might dress a bit more..."
"Let's see what's at this party," the rabbit girl interrupted. She didn't want to know what Matt's idea was. Dressing herself was already a weird experience.
Matt nodded. Finally, a night to spend with Sally... this was going to be sweet! He knocked on the door, rapping it a little loudly as there was a heavy beat of music inside. A jock opened it, Dean Fielder with his typical sports jacket on. "Hey, you brought her!" He said grinning to David. "Come on in."
"Thanks!" Said Matt walking in.
David was feeling a bit... apprehensive. Why were her instincts making her feel like she was walking into some kind of... trap? It was just a frat party though. She had to admit, she had always been a bit curious. It wasn't as if they got to see these groups before. She was a little relieved to see a few other girls here, one seemed to be a cheerleader. However she was a bit put off by the way Dean was... gawking at her. It was obvious he was staring at her chest. "I don't actually have a lot of time," she said.
"Oh no problem, make yourself at home Bunny," he said with a smile.
David gave a fuming look. "My name is Dav-"
"Whoa, her ears move! Look at that guys!" Dean said.
Matt was looking around anxiously for Sally. "Uh.. where is Sally? You said she would be here? That I could go on a date with her?"
"Oh... right. Yeah, I suppose you now need to see the reason she's single," he said. "Come on an' see."
Matt was horrified by the scene. He saw what looked like boy... only he had fox ears and a fox tail.
"Is.. is that her boyfriend?" Asked Matt concerned.
"No, That's Sally." Dean explained.
The Fox-boy looked up at them tearfully. He was quite a handsome teenager, with bright red or orange hair depending on how the light shone. He also appeared to be wearing headphones, dangling onto an Ipod or something like that. "Someone brought the disease to the school... and the word is it's one of you two. Dean?"
The frat boy nodded, as the music suddenly stopped. "With pleasure Sally. Nobody hurts one of us and get's away with it." His voice deadly serious.
Matt and David suddenly backed away. This was a trap! However, David was unable to move as she felt the most searing pain inside her head. She clutched herself, as she felt dizzy and unable to move. She writhed on the floor in agony, confused to what was going on.
"What's going on! What are you doing!" Matt shouted.
Dean smiled. "We're not all dunces here. She's hearing a... what do you call it... High Frequency sound. Hey, pretty effective. I thought it would just make her dizzy. Crank it up some more!"
Matt lurched forward to help David up. He had to get her away from the speakers! They were all over this room... it was completely set up to direct sound onto this spot. A cinema surround sound system, actually weaponised against the changed. He was suddenly grabbed by Dean. "L-Let me go!"
"Oh no, you got to take your medicine like a man. It's one of you that brought this to the school and you're going to be taught a lesson now."
"Let David go You're killing her!" Matt glanced at her pleadingly.
Dean looked at the rabbit girl. It didn't look like she was moving now... he felt a slight sweat. He didn't think the ultrasonic sound would work that well. "Uh- Cut off the speakers, I think she's had enough."
Sally fumed at them. That was it? That was all they were going to do? "It's your fault I'm a boy! I'm going to beat the crap out of you!"
"It's not our fault!" Matt exclaimed. "I mean- I'm not the one that got sick-"
Dean nodded at that logic. "He does have a point there, it was probably Bunny Boobs that started this whole mess... either her, or Jon. Way to set our priorities," he grinned. "Let's see what she's hiding under that top though, I want to see if the rumours are true."
Sally grabbed the rabbit girl pulling her up. The fox boy did have an impressive amount of strength. "What am I supposed to do! You... you... took my life away!"
David herself could smell... the enemy. The Fox... One of the enemies of her kind... the instinct to run, hide... get away. She was deafened, and not quite able to hear what was going on around her. Certainly not whatever Sally was saying to her. That shrilled noise penetrated so deep into her bones... still the pain was subsiding. Run.. get away... Predators.. a Fox! you can't do anything, you can only run... or...
...fight?
Rabbits are generally not known for fighting. But then, David had a fusion of some rabbit instincts, wrapped into a decent amount of human will power. She kicked as hard as she could, sending the fox-boy sprawling away at the attack. She sniffed the air, feeling fresh air... her sensitive ears and soft fur could even feel a draft, as she turned her head to a half open window. She ran, launching herself through it guided only by her instincts, as she landed on soft grass.
Matt used this as a moment to get away from here himself. He didn't favour the window though. With everyone fixated on David's escape, he had ran for the front door and out to the streets as quickly as he could.
"Let them go," Dean decided as he was trying to help Sally from David's strong kick. "Don't worry... you're a bro now, and this frat takes care of the bros."
Sally felt herself crying. "They... have to pay for it."
"Hey, Bros don't cry. They did pay, we taught 'em a good lesson."
David wasn't sure how far she had run... or even where. Matt was gone, and the whole incident had become a bit of a blur.
"I saw you kick them. That's forbidden. We run, not fight..." said a little voice.
"Yes, I know," whispered David knowing that in some strange way to be 'true'. "Huh... who.. said that?" She looked around. It looked like she had gone into a park of some kind. A small one... it was known to have a few trees, and some pockets of wildlife. One of which, seemed to be a rabbit as it looked at her. " are you talking to me?" That injury to her ears must have hit her harder then she thought...
"You're a bit of us and an Enemy? Doesn't that make you an Enemy...?" The rabbit asked quickly, with a tilt of his head.
"I'm nobodies Enemy," said David confused even more.
you must be a good chief. Fighting Chief? Where's your warren?"
As near as David could tell, this was quite a young rabbit. A 'gatherer', that brought food to their warren... Obviously it couldn't possibly be talking to her. She was just having a massive hallucination by whatever the frat boys did with their speakers. "I live... in a big house, one of those... houses... there. I'm.. going there now."
"We don't have much room here. Can some of us live with you?"
"Yeah... sure. If you find me." David walked away, putting this behind her. Talking rabbits?
...what a weird, and horrible day.
