The next morning Jennifer got up, ate breakfast in a daze, and was rushed out the door to the bus by her mother and Karyn. The ride there was uneventful, but classes were a little more interesting.
Geography was first, and Jennifer learned that the catgirls tended to live near other catgirls, making certain cities (such as Jennifer's own) catgirl towns, while the rest of the cities were human towns. This was a generalization, of course; both races were free to live anywhere they wished, and there were many catgirls who lived in human towns, and obviously many humans who lived in catgirl towns, but the tendencies were there. Catgirl towns tended to be located in more rural areas, where the catgirl population could hunt larger animals when they felt like it. This meant that catgirls as a race had a strong hold on the agriculture business, whereas humans were more involved in industrial jobs.
After Geography Jennifer was surprised (though she really shouldn't have been) to learn that she had a reproductive health class that the girls in her age group had to take. Though her fur hid it, she blushed quite a bit as she learned more than she had ever wanted to know about the nitty-gritty of the female reproductive system. It was an entirely new thing for her to realize that her body had the capability to shelter and nurture a child until it was ready to live on its own. She tried not to think about it.
She met up with Karyn at lunch, and the two of them talked for a bit. They noticed that some of the kids who'd been guys before were still guys. This, they deduced, meant that they had fathered children. Not really surprising, when they thought about what those guys had been like. Nonetheless, the population of the school was mostly catgirls.
P.E. came, and Jennifer found herself standing in a locker room full of naked or mostly-naked catgirls, trying to nerve herself up to undress so she could change into her P.E. outfit. She thought about how much some of the guys in the school would give to see what she was seeing (well, back when they were guys, at any rate,) and was disturbed to find that she was not remotely turned on by the sight in front of her. Instead, her thoughts kept wandering back to the scene in the boys' locker room back when there were more than a dozen or so boys in the school... Blushing madly (though invisibly) and thoroughly freaked out, she quickly slipped into her swimsuit, rushed out of the room, and dove into the pool.
Riding home on the bus that afternoon, Jennifer tried to pull herself together, but couldn't seem to manage it. If she intended to avoid as much of being a girl as possible, she'd have to go a year without romantic relationships. This would have been easy back when she was a guy and ignored by most, but now she was, though not the most attractive girl in the school by far, certainly no eyesore. She knew that she could refuse any possible advances from the guys currently in school, since they had all fathered children and left the girl to deal with it, but should someone else move into town, as someone surely would in the course of a year, and should that someone express an interest in her, she wasn't at all sure that she would be able to fight her hormones, especially after they had been affecting her thought patterns for that long.
She arrived home, went up to her room, and lay on her bed for a long time, thinking about the events of the day and worrying about her predicament.
