Jennifer reached into a pocket and fished out the stone. "Oh no you don't!" Karyn said sharply as she snatched it away. She held it tight and quickly said, "I wish that this stone would be unable to reverse the effects of the dice until they would normally wear off."

Jennifer's ears drooped, and she frowned. "Karyn," she said, "why'd you do that? I didn't want to be a girl!"

"We rolled the dice because we wanted to see a different version of reality, Jen," said Karyn. "I'm just making you play by the rules. You'd do the same if our positions were reversed. Besides, it's not like it's permanent or anything."

"Well," said Jennifer, "please at least give the stone back."

Karyn's ears went back. She could tell Jennifer was trying to come up with another way out of the situation, so she wished again. "I wish," she said, "that for the duration of the dice effects, this stone would disappear to an otherwise-empty dimension and reappear on Jennifer's dresser once the effects have worn off." The stone vanished without further ado.

Jennifer's tail puffed slightly. "Karyn!" she snapped.

"Play by the rules, Jen," Karyn responded. "The idea was that we'd all be in the same boat, and we are, and I intend for it to stay that way. And like I said, it's not so bad. You're still fully aware of your real self, and it only is going to last a year. Besides, what's so bad about being a girl?"
