"I agree," said Jon. Karyn brightened, ears perked.
"You do?" she said. "Great, give me the stone!"
"Wait," Jon said. "We can't do it here; anybody hearing us might figure something out."
"You're right," Karyn conceded. "Let's finish up here and get back to your house."
They finished up their meal and went back to Jon's house. They went up to his room and sat down on the floor with the stone.
"On the off chance some relations got messed up in the original wish," Karyn said, "we ought to let the original wish expire so that things go back to normal. Then we can re-wish for this and affect the rest of the world."
"Good thinking," Jon said. "Let's see: I wish that tomorrow morning, when the species-die wish wears off, all of humanity would become anthropomorphic felines as in the current wish, until Karyn and I agree that things need to be changed back, and that Karyn and I would keep the feline forms we have now, and that we would remember the world before the wish but receive the same mental adjustments as the rest of the world."
Karyn's ears perked up again. "This is the best thing that's happened in a long while," she grinned. "I probably ought to get home, though. See you tomorrow, after we get to stay cats!"
Jon smiled as she walked off down the sidewalk. Karyn was right; even if nothing really important had changed, this was still pretty cool. He undressed and went to bed.
