They made their way to Karyn's house without incident. They headed up to Karyn's room, and she tossed her clothing on the bed. She headed over to her closet and opened it up. Humming to herself, she pulled out a dress that complimented her fur nicely and slipped it on.
"I never thought of you as a dress type of girl," Jon said.
"Not usually," Karyn answered, "but everybody likes to do something different occasionally. C'mon, let's go check stuff out!"
They did. Jon and Karyn spent most of the day walking around town and observing people. Some things were different, such as the minor feline behaviors that people exhibited, like licking oneself, but it seemed that for the most part life was the same.
Later that evening, they discussed their observations over White Castle burgers.
"I gotta admit," said Jon, "I'm a little disappointed. I thought the changes would be a little more..."
"...Sweeping?" asked Karyn. "Yeah, I thought so too, but I guess it's because the wish didn't change anything about human nature. Er, cat-person nature, or whatever we're calling it now."
"Good point," Jon laughed. "I wonder how the outside world views us? After all, we just changed the town, so this is presumably the only place with cat-people in it."
"Hmm," Karyn muttered. "If we're the only town of cat-people, I wonder what the revised history has our ancestors as? For instance, if your grandparents were humans, how would their children, your parents, be cat-people?"
"I dunno," Jon said. "I suppose if you go by that logic, every human in the world would have become a cat-person. It's not really important, though. Things'll go back to normal tomorrow morning."
Karyn sighed and looked down into her drink, ears tilted back just a little. "What's up?" Jon asked.
Karyn hesitated a minute before replying. "I...I'm not sure I want it to go back," she said.
"Really?" Jon asked.
"Yeah," she replied. "I mean, it seems that there haven't been any problematic changes in life, and to be honest this new body feels really good, really comfortable. Plus, it's cool just because it's something different, but not too different. I'd kinda like things to stay this way."
Jon thought for a minute. "Well..." he said...
