Tom said, "Let's get out of here! James wouldn't want us to sit around and mop his passing like this, he would want us to do something to celebrate his life."
Jill smiled warmly at Tom and just felt as if he had just somehow given 'her' a compliment.
"Alright Tom, what should we go do?" Jill said.
"I'll keep it as a surprise until we get there, but we might swing by your place to get you something else to wear."
"Something else to wear?" Jill smiled in anticipation. "OK, well Linda drove me here, so I guess you'll have to drive me home."
"OK, let's good."
Jill stopped off on the way out to tell Linda she was leaving with Tom. Linda was glad. Tom and James had been friends since grade school and she could tell he was taking James' death really hard too, and she was glad that Jill was able to get Tom out of the slump he had been.
"Call me later." Linda said as Jill was leaving.
"Will do Sis." Jill said leaving.
Linda watched as Jill and Tom left. It struck her after they left how it was strange that Jill had called her 'Sis', just the way James always had, and come to think of it their were other similarities between Jill and James, Linda started to think, but realized that she must really being missing her brother to see him in another person and she got distracted and didn't think about it until sometime later.
Mean while, Tom and Jill drove to Jill's place. Tom became upset walking up the walking up to Jill's apartment, which was right next to James'.
"Are you alright?" Jill asked.
"Yes, just the last time I was here, I was here to see James." He said as a tear ran down his face.
"Oh God, Tom I am so sorry. Do you want me to get my change of clothes still, or if you still want to keep it a surprise you can pick out whatever you think I'll need." Jill said hoping to get his mind of his friend. "Or can I get you a drink or anything?"
Tom sat on Jill's couch and wiped away a tear. Jill watched him feeling terrible. Tom was a friend of hers, she felt like he was her best friend and she had been trying to cheer him up, but now he felt worse and she felt responsible.
"Tom, is there something I can do to cheer you up?" Jill asked.
