Jon, Melissa, and Tiffany wandered about the mall, flitting from store to store. His friends could tell something was bothering him, and clearly were trying to cheer him up, but his heart wasn't in shopping.
Meanwhile, Zoe, formerly Jon's but currently Sarah's sister was in the mall with her friends, Athena and Zelda. They didn't come to the mall as often as some high school kids. They were there to have food(the mall food court had a great selection), and to look in Hot Topic.
Sarah and Karyn entered the mall. Karyn wasn't sure what was wrong with her best friend today. Sarah was acting bossy and paranoid. After a quick search of Sarah's room, and not finding the stone, they'd come to the mall to find Zoe, who Sarah was convinced was the next most likely suspect.
As they passed a store, Karyn nearly bumped into someone while trying to keep up with Sarah. It was Jon McMillan, the head cheerleader. "Sorry," Jon said, and continued on.
Karyn frowned. Jon never apologized for anything. Maybe she wasn't thinking?
"Hurry up, Karyn," Sarah said. "I see them."
She increased her speed.
