Jon stumbled down to the kitchen table, having had a restless night of worrying, waiting for the hammer to fall. He started to make himself a bowl of cereal, and sat down at the table to eat. It was still early, thanks to him going to bed early, and he'd woken up before the rest of his family. Sitting in the kitchen in the quiet of the morning, he finally let himself relax, convinced that he'd gotten off easy somehow.
He heard the sound of someone coming down the stairs. It was probably his mother. Linda Madison was a hard-working single mother, who tried to take care of the house, and work a job at a law firm. Despite her job, she was always home at night, even if she had to bring work home with her. Since his father died, he'd tried not to be too much trouble for her, unlike Zoe, who was probably turning his Mom's hair grey faster.
