Nina sat at Cateline's mirror smiling to herself. I love the way we French girls stick together she thought. She wondered if Cateline would mind if she borrowed some of her perfume. Looking down at the table top in front of the mirror she noticed Cateline's lucky necklace lying there. I wonder how I would look with it on she thought reaching for The Necklace of Infinite Possibilities that Cateline had left lying at her vanity.
As her fingers lifted the necklace, she remembered how Jon had seemed concerned over it. Nina wondered why that might be. It would be nice if she could learn more about Jon, who he is and where he comes from. Nina felt such a connection to him, despite just meeting.
She shut the clasp of the necklace behind her neck, and suddenly she was in an unfamiliar place. A bedroom. One larger than the urban French bedrooms she had grown up in. Whose could this be?
The answer came to her immediately. This was her bedroom. Nina recognized her closet, her bed, her computer, the picture of herself and Cateline on the bookshelf. Cateline? No. Karyn. Or was it Karyn? Nina couldn't think straight. It was giving her a headache. She sat down on the bed -- her bed, a voice insisted -- and cradled her face in her hands.
What was she wearing? A loose pair of jeans, a T-shirt with a horse's head and the word "BRONCOS." Why was she wearing her Broncos shirt? Wait, aren't the Denver Broncos an American football team? Nina didn't know anything about American football. But she remembered her father giving her this shirt after they won the Super Bowl, his stories of growing up on Colorado.
Oh, if only Karyn -- Cateline? No, Karyn -- was here, she was always good to bounce ideas off of. The Necklace of Infinite Possibilities glowed on Nina's neck. Something was about to happen.
