As quietly as he could Scott crept back into his room, house racing. What was he going to do? He couldn't just sit back and let people rob his house, but then what would his parents or the police say if they found him in here?
Mind racing, he made a decision. He picked up the phone by his bed and dialled the emergency number, still being quiet as a mouse.
"Which service do you require?"
"Police! There's someone robbing my house! They're here now!"
"Please try to stay calm and quiet. Let me check your details..." She checked that the phone was registered to the correct address, and Scott confirmed that it was. "Okay, we'll have someone there as quickly as possible."
"You should also inform my... the house's owners - they're at the Empire theatre. Mr. and Mrs. Dewhurst."
"Very well, I'll pass that information along to the police. It's probably best if you stay on the line until..." Click
Scott hung up. He didn't want to be here when the police turned up - he had no way to explain who he was.
Still being quiet and working in the near-dark, he crept to his window and opened it. Cool air rushed in and he realised he was still only wearing his own overlarge teeshirt. Can't go out like this! He pulled those on first and they fit, although were a little snug. Then he dumped his teeshirt and pulled on the much better fitting smaller one.
Heart still racing, he shoved the other clothes under his bed and returned to the window. The old elm tree he used to sneak out of the house on occassion seemed a bit further to reach from the window this time because of his smaller stature, but he made it and pulled himself across onto the branch, and quickly climbed down the tree.
Once into the garden, he could actually see the broken window and signs of people moving around. He had no wish to confront burglars at all, and especially not like this, so he quickly ran and jumped over the fence and walked off down the street. This was awkward, but he had little choice but to wait this out and then change back. He could explain his absence to his parents more easily that explaining why he looked like a little kid. So now he needed somewhere to hide out for the night, then in the morning, he could change back and return.... "Oh no!" Scott suddenly went white. He'd left the medallion in his room! In the distance, police sirens started to get louder...
