Symone walked through the halls of the school, frustrated. Why had her father not only moved them to the suburbs, but to one with so few people like them? She felt like she stood out like a sore thumb. It wasn't as if her old school didn't have white people....but it also had a large amount of other ethnicities also. She'd been here for only a few days, having transferred during Spring Break, and if she wanted to talk to a girl who looked like her, her choices were a naive looking sophomore or a cheerleader who looked so embedded in a group of Barbie Doll-like girls that it was hard to tell if she had a personality worth getting to know. The pickings on the boy front looked equally slim. It wasn't as if she hadn't had white friends at her old school either, but she really didn't want to be someone's 'black friend'.

She suddenly stopped, encountering an object in her path and nearly stubbing her toe on it. It was some kind of weird rock. "I wish I knew what jerk left a rock in the middle of the hall," she muttered. Suddenly her eyes lit up, and a small smile hit her face... She knew exactly what she was going to do with this...

She ducked into a nearby corridor. "I wish that over time, this school...no, this town would get more diverse. That there would be more people like me here. And not just black...just not all white. I mean...reflecting what's average around the country, at the least. And the people who notice the change won't be able to convince anyone who doesn't that it is anything different. And that the owner of the stone would not notice the change or figure out that I have the stone now." Unknown to Symone, by wishing that people who noticed the change wouldn't be able to convince others, she insured someone had to notice.

The stone flashed, digesting that really long, complicated, and somewhat rambling wish. Symone had neglected to define what span of time this would happen over, what she meant by people like her, though it was clarified in the next sentence a bit. But, in order to try to accommodate the vague portions of her wish, a lot of different things could happen.

And being as Symone had made her wish to specifically include Jon, he was what you might call Patient Zero—the first to be affected by the "over time" portion of the wish.
