"Have you ever watched Inuyasha?" asked Karyn.
"No," replied Jon.
"Never mind," said Karyn. "I wish that I had the special power to sense the location of a nearby shard. I also wish I had an unbreakable bottle, on a chain, that I could put the shards in."
A small bottle appeared, like the one Kagome sometimes used in the Inuyasha series but larger--the wand was rather big compared to the Shikon no Tama.
"What are you doing?" asked Jon.
"Oh, it's simple. Now we just need to travel around trying to find each shard. It's an indirect wish--we can't just wish to get all the shards, but we can wish to be able to find them. Here, take your magic stone... but first, I wish we both had some tweezers so we could pick the shards up without touching them.
"Interesting. Are there any around here?"
Karyn concentrated and pointed to a rock. "Right there! Behind that boulder!"
They walked towards the rock, only to be startled by a pigeon as tall as a man. It didn't attack, though. In fact it spent most of its time trying to flap its wings, not knowing that it could never fly at that size.
Karyn opened the bottle and held it out, and Jon picked up the shard and safely sealed it inside.
"One down..." said Karyn. She closed her eyes and furrowed her brow. "There's one a few blocks away. Outside the woods."
They approached to see the shard, lying on the ground, and Sarah McMillan sitting on a bench, crying. Her skin was covered with writing, as if it had been tattooed on.
Jon picked up the shard and put it in Karyn's bottle.
"What do we do?" said Jon.
"I don't know," replied Karyn. "It's Sarah, and goodness knows she's been mean to us enough times, but we can't just leave her like this."
"I wish I knew exactly how Sarah was affected," said Jon. As the stone sent images into his mind, he said "It's okay. It's just ink, it's not a real tattoo. She can wash it off."
They quickly ran away--ignoring Sarah, who barely noticed them.
"You know," said Jon, "it seems okay right now, but what do we do if someone finds one of these shards and realizes what it does? Sooner or later someone will."
"Well, I hope we get them all first. I know there's one more shard around here. It's...."
