The next day, Jon woke up to get ready to go to school. He showered, got dressed, and ate... with his daughter at the table too. His mother and his sister and brother hadn't even noticed anything unusual about his becoming a mother overnight.

Then he had to go to school. Gina was in kindergarten, so he had to take her there too, and of course he had no idea where it was. But then, he could always ask the stone.

Jon ran up to his room to grab the stone and wand. Then he thought a minute and wished "I wish I had a plastic cap for this wand, so that if the plastic cap is put on, the wand can't do anything until it's taken off." The cap appeared in his hand and it fit nicely on the end. At least he could carry the wand around without another accident. And then, "I wish I knew where I had to take Gina."

He dropped off his daughter at kindergarten and went on to school. The day continued pretty much as normal, except that "normal" had been different with Jon's acquisition of a vagina in the last few weeks, and a daughter in the last day.

At lunch, Karyn and Jon were conversing.

"So what's it like being a mother?" asked Karyn.

"Busy. Very busy" said Jon. "Even with the stone and the wand to help. Maybe I should wish that Gina knows how to tie her own shoelaces."

"You know, maybe you should just wish the wand into orbit. Having it can be dangerous."

"Oh, it's okay. I wished up a cap for it. Let me show you..."

And then Jon realized: he didn't have the wand. Just the cap. He had put it on hastily and the wand had come out.

"I wish I knew where the wand is. He blinked as the knowledge filled his head and then said "Argh. Gina found it. She's got it."

"Uh-oh..." said Karyn.

"I wish", said Jon, "that I have the wand again, and that it have this cap on the end and that the cap won't ever come off unless someone deliberately takes it off."

Poof. He was now holding both the wand and the stone.

"Whew..." said Jon. "I'm glad that that's over."

"Well," said Karyn, "except that your 5 1/2 year old child, who didn't exist a day ago, has had a magic wand for three hours and probably used it, even if she just didn't know what she was doing. Who knows what she did with it?"

"I wish," said Jon, "that I know what Gina did with the wand today."

The information filled Jon's head, and then he said "I think we've got problems, Karyn...."
