Steve picked the stone up. "Why would you say 'I wish'?" His next sentence, unfortunately, counted as part of a wish, since he said the words 'I wish' before it. "I just don't understand you," he continued. "Why do you have to be such losers?" He felt the stone become warm and as a reflex, he dropped it on the floor.
"Thrus phoose strallus," Jon said.
"What?" Steve said.
"Thrus phoose strallus, trakelus," answered back.
"Why are you talking like that?"
Then Karyn said "Grelpad draylia craloupus."
Steve backed away from them. What happened? Did he have a stroke or something?
He looked around and saw Biff Meadows. He was the captain of the football team and also his best friend.
"Biff. I think there might be something wrong."
"Phleras bretry alovares," Biff said.
Dismay fell across Steve's face. "Not you too."
As he backed away from Biff, he realized that everyone in the hallway was speaking that weird incomprehensible language. The students, the teachers, everyone. Except for him.
What Steve didn't realize was that the stone granted his unintended wish: "I wish I just don't understand you." And now, he didn't understand them. Any of them.
