"Sorry about that," Jon said after he returned, "I had a call."
"No problem," Joseph replied, "Shall we go to the mall? I've got a bunch of stuff I want to get."
"Sure, in fact, I have a place I want to go to, as a special treat for your birthday."
After a few minutes of travel to the mall, Jon took Joseph to a bakery and ordered a small cake with candles. "Happy birthday, Joseph!" Jon decided the best way to get Joseph to say a wish was to blow out birthday candles.
Joseph began to laugh. "I really didn't expect this. It feels like we're the only guys here." Sure enough, most of the people in the store were girls.
"This was the only place I could think of that sold cakes nearby. Now make a wish and blow out your candles."
"Only if you sing me they birthday song."
"Not on your life."
"Ah well, worth a try." With that, Joseph took a deep breath and blew out the candles.
"Well, what did you wish for?" Jon was a little nervous; anything he wished for would come true and Joseph had no idea it would.
"You know it's unlucky to say the wish."
"Come on you can tell me. It's not like it would come true anyway."
"Fine, I'll tell you. I wish..."
