John walked out from behind the corner and waved to Joseph, indicating that he was ready to go.
"What were you doing behind there," asked Joseph in a sarcastic tone insinuating that John was jerking off, "you need to wait until you get home for that kind of shit."
"I was just..looking at how much money I had in my wallet. Y'know it's not a good idea to count money in public so I decided to get away from prying eyes," said John. Joseph and him walked towards the parking lot where Joseph left his car.
"Geez, it's not like you're carrying around $100 bills in your wallet. Do you really think that someone wants to rob you of your ten dollars and a coupon for a free haircut?"
John and Joseph made their way to the car without speaking to one another. John, the one that usually started the conversations between the two, was unusually silent. He was in deep thought thinking about what he was going to do to keep Joseph from wishing for something stupid that could jeopardize reality.
"Right now Joseph could seriously damage reality itself and their might not be a way for me to fix it if he does," thought John, "I guess my only real choice is to tell him about the rock so I can get him to wish for something small that won't warp reality. Of course he'll want to use the rock to make more wishes once he finds out about it, but I'll burn that bridge when I cross it."
The two boys got into Joseph's car and drove off to the cafe. The two continued to remain silent until John spoke up and said, "Joseph, their is something really important that I have to tell you. Now I know that it sounds strange and that you aren't going to believe me when I tell you this, but just listen to me anyway."
"Ok. You sound pretty serious about it, so what is it?"
"When you make a wish out loud it will magically be granted. I know that sounds stange but hear me out anyway. Do you remember when I said that I would like to have something special to give you on your birthday? Well I said 'wish' instead of 'would like' so my magic stone that my grandpa left me gave you a wish for your birthday."
Joseph gave John an odd look and started to open his mouth to say something but was cut off by John.
"Wait, I'm not done yet. The wishes change reality so that everybody that doesn't hear the wish spoken will automatically have their minds changed so that they won't notice that anything is different. For example, if I made a wish for your car to be green then you and I would be the only ones that noticed that it changed colors. Everybody else would think that your car has always been green; and all of your photo's and written descriptions of your car will be changed to show that it has always been green. Wishes on this stone as well as the wish that I gave you cannot be reversed or negated, only changed. Using your car as an example again, let's say that I tried to wish that it was back to its original color. The rock couldn't do that but it could make it a different shade of green. Alright, do you understand what's going on now? I need you to make a wish for something small and easy, like a wish for the latest copy of the Batman comic book or a music CD. Just don't use the wish for something big, ok? You could seriously screw something up and we couldn't be able to fix it." John looked at Joseph to see what his reaction was to his little explanation of things. He hoped that Joseph would believe him.
