Jon felt like he was getting hot and bloated, but at least wasn't really in pain. He could only see the inside of the oven, lit by the heating elements, and what he smelled... Becky had wished that he smell, so he did. In fact, he smelled bread baking. He smelled himself baking!

It would have been funny if it wasn't for the possibility that he'd live forever as a loaf of bread. He could do nothing but wait; he certainly wasn't an animated loaf of bread.

After what seemed like forever, Becky took Jon out and cut off a slice. Again, he didn't feel actual pain, but it felt like he was being ripped apart. Yet he hadn't lost feeling in his legs or arms--he didn't have any legs or arms and it was just a generic feeling that some of him was missing, spread all over his body.

"All right," said Becky. "I think we're done, pun intended. I wonder how you taste." She picked up the slice of Jon and said "I wish the rest of this loaf of bread would turn back into Jon, and not with a piece of him missing."

Jon was very surprised when suddenly he was a whole human being again. In fact, Becky had wished he would turn into "a lump of raw bread dough". The stone couldn't reverse the wish, by changing him into something other than a lump of raw bread dough. But if he was already not a lump of raw bread dough--say, because Becky had cooked him--changing him wouldn't reverse the wish.

He stammered and tried to get the words out, but still couldn't speak.

"Speak up, Jon!" she commanded.

He was only able to grumble, and couldn't form any words.

"Fine. I wish you could speak again."

Nothing happened. Jon picked up a pen and tried to write on a napkin.

"Just what are you doing?" asked Becky. "Oh, I see. Trying to write. Wi... wishes are not... reversible? Give me a break. If wishes weren't reversible I couldn't have turned you back to human. You're obviously faking it. Now speak to me or I make you eat this slice of bread. I wonder what that would do."
