"I wish that I weren't fat because I really am twins, each half my weight!"
Gwen shimmered like a bad TV picture, pieces of her seeming to be in two places at once, and then where she once stood, there were two Gwens. The stone dropped to the ground again. The two Gwens scrambled for it, the one on the west getting to it first.
But not only were there two Gwens, they were also about eight years old. Cutely dressed, both in identical grey sweat suits, and looking identical.
"Gwen, what did you do?" said both Jons. Then they looked at each other, confused. "How do we know who's who anyway?" asked the other Jon. Finally one spoke up and said "We'll be Jon and Karyn A and you'll be B, okay?"
"Okay," replied Jon B.
"I know what she did" said Karyn A. "She weighed more than an average person her age, but not twice as much. But she did weigh twice as much as a kid."
"Then I wish," said the Gwen that could be called Gwen A, "that me and the other Gwen are teenage again!"
Nothing happened.
"Don't try that!" said Karyn B. "It won't work. You can't reverse a wish. Getting older and heavier would reverse part of it."
"But... But..." said one Gwen, then the other. She threw the stone at Karyn B, who was surprised, but not surprised enough to let it fall. "Here, you fix us then."
"It's fine" said Karyn B. "I can't use the stone for that, but I still have the remote."
"We both still have the remote!" said Karyn A. She pointed it at the nearest Gwen, pressed a couple of buttons, and an '8' showed on the display. Then the other Karyn did the same to the other Gwen. They each pressed the arrow keys on their remote, increasing the number just like a TV channel number. As the number increased, each Gwen seemed to age another year. At 16, the Karyns stopped and put their remotes away again.
"Thanks!" said the Gwens in unison. "This is..." said one, and the second continued, "Amazing! I'm not fat. And I always wondered what it would be like to have a sister!"
"Uhh, Gwen? Gwens?" said Karyn B.
"Yes?" said Gwen A.
"You're going home like that?" asked Karyn B. "People will wonder why there are two of you. We're out of the stone's range, so it won't make things normal in the city. Here, let me help. I wish that both Gwens are surrounded by a magic aura that changes reality like the stone, so it's normal for them to be twins, but the aura moves with them, and won't affect any of us."
Karyn A, waiting for a chance to talk, started when Karyn B paused. "Now you can go home and everyone knows you as twins. And by the way..." She wrote down her cell phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to Gwen B. "Just in case, here's our number." Karyn didn't realize that the phone company's computer was out of range, so Karyn B's phone didn't work, but that hardly mattered anyway.
After the Gwens left, Karyn B said "Now back to the stone! I wish that Karyn A and Jon A had another stone that's mystically connected to this one and could be used for wishing. And I wish that if a wish doesn't change the memories of one Jon or Karyn, it won't change the memories of the other, even if they can't hear it. I think that's it..."
A stone appeared in Karyn A's hand. She nearly dropped it.
Jon A said "Ten minutes?"
"Sure" replied the Karyns. "We meet here in ten minutes, gotcha" said Jon B.
Jon A and Karyn A trekked off and found a semi-secluded part of the forest by a burned-out campfire. The new stone did indeed work. In the next ten minutes they experimented with a lot of new clothes, and Karyn made Jon a woman again so she could dress him up, but they were careful enough to limit the wishes and they were normal again when the time was up.
"I wonder what the other you and me did with the other stone" said Jon A.
"Maybe the same thing" said Karyn A.
But, as they reached the meeting spot and their twins arrived too, Jon A and Karyn A saw that their twins hadn't done exactly the same thing. In fact, they....
