"Jon, what are we going to do? You've killed a cop!" said Karyn.
"No, he's not dead," said Jon. "Just changed into copper."
"But we can't change him back! Not according to how the rules work!"
"Maybe I can add to the wish. I could say 'I wish the policeman were living copper!"
"Like that would work."
But, less than a mile away, right where they'd left him, the copper statue of the policeman blinked its eyes and began to move. It stood up straight, wondering where the car that had been speeding had gone to. He reached up to take off his cap so he could scratch his head, but his hat wouldn't come off!
He noticed that people passing by him were staring strangely at him. Was something wrong with his uniform? He looked down at it and was surprised to see its color had change. He tried to unbutton his shirt to see what had happened to it, when he noticed the buttons were now solidly against his shirt.
Then, he noticed his hands. That told him he should look at his reflection. He got in his car, looked in the rear-view mirror, and said the only words he could think of: "What in the hell ... ?"
