James Sleeps for Now

Jon stood luxuriating in his newfound form, the stone still in his hand. As he waited on the bartender to finish filling the beers for table seven, his mind wandered back to his older cousin James, whom he had lost track of years ago. James would probably be in college now, somewhere. Jon and James had spent many a hot summer together as kids, riding bikes, making tree forts, talking about life and what they wanted to do and be. During those days, Jon had hung on every word that dropped from his two year older cousin's mouth. The beer foaming into a glass reminded Jon for a second of the first beer he had ever tasted, one that James had smuggled out of his parents house the summer before James' family had moved away. "I wish I could share this experience with James, he'd really get a kick out of it", Jon thought absently before his mind turned back to his tables.
Many miles away, James, now a sophomore at UCLA, kicked fitfully at the light blanket covering him during a quick nap the day after pulling an all-nighter to finish a take home English essay exam.
Brad Collins, James roomate, and Stephanie Thomas, Brad's sometimes study partner crept quietly into the room as James slept. Placing her hand on Brad's shoulder, Stephanie whispered, "Brad, he is gonna be mad if you borrow his boom box without asking him again. Forget it, lets just change and go to the pool the sun is out and I look like a ghost after three weeks in the liabrary." "Shhh, he will never know if you will just be quiet. We have got three days before summer session starts and I want to jam by the pool." Brad's leg brushed James hand as he reached over the bed to pick up the boom boxAt the same time Brad was reaching over James bed to to swipe the boom box, a winsome waitress at Hooters had a passing thought about an old friend. A thought she didn't even think of as a wish. Brad and Steph (who were unaltered by the wish, but because they were touching James at the time it was made were able to perceive its results) screamed in shock and surprise. Brad would later say only Steph screamed, he was "just startled".
