Meanwhile, as Karyn had figured out, the real Sarah was in the mall. In fact, she wasn't even there to buy anything, she just wanted to chat with a friend who had a part time cashier job.
But as soon as Karyn made the change, everyone thought she Karyn was the real Sarah. Jon did, she did, and the real Sarah did too.
Which meant the real Sarah thought she was Karyn.
Sarah looked around for Jon--last she remembered Jon was in the food court. She ran and a minute later found Jon. He was arguing with Sarah, or seemed to have been, but "Sarah" had walked away in the middle of the argument.
"Jon, it's me!" yelled Sarah.
"Karyn?" replied Jon. "It's got to be you. You were going to change into Sarah but somehow the real Sarah's here..."
"I'm not sure what's going on," said Sarah (thinking she was Karyn), "but Sarah was going to be at the mall, so she'd have to be around here. I just got lost. More lost than you'd expect."
"I don't understand it either," said Jon, "but what do we do? I thought Sarah was supposed to think you're the real Sarah."
"Maybe she does," said Sarah. "She hasn't run into me yet. Maybe when she runs into me she'll suddenly think she's the fake. Anyway, I'm starved. Do we want to get something to eat like this?"
"I don't know," said Jon. "We should look for the real Sarah, that's the whole point of this, right?"
"Yeah." Sarah nodded. She and Jon went off to look for the "real Sarah", even though she was the real Sarah. Nobody could figure out that each one thought the other, since "Karyn" hadn't tried to do something like change shape again, which only the real Karyn could do.
