Karyn led Jonni up to the room they now shared. It was odd; Karyn knew she was a veterinary student boarding with Anne here at the zoo, but she also somehow remembered the wishes that had gotten them into this situation. Most importantly, she remembered that Jonni used to be her male, human best friend Jon.
Meanwhile, Jonni, Karyn's catgirl pet, had curled up in her bed, an elaborate wicker thing with a moveable basket shaped like a shallow bowl and lined with a round futon placed in a stand, and was watching Karyn as she got ready for bed. "How was your day?" she asked. "Did you get any studying in for the biology test, nya?"
Karyn nodded half-heartedly. "Um, a little." It was bothering her; Jonni was nice enough, but she felt bad about inflicting this on Jon, and worse about the fact that it might not be possible to circumvent the wish and return Jon to his original form. What should she do? What could she do? If she told Jonni what she had done, Jonni might hate her for it. But if she kept this up, she'd be living a lie and, in a roundabout way, deceiving her best friend about his own identity...
Jonni sniffed a bit. "What's wrrong?" she queried. "You smell sad, nya."
Karyn sighed. Should she tell the truth?
