Before we could think of anything, there was a scratching sound at my door, a big scratching sound, and the door latch flipped before the door was nudged open by another leopardess, this one noticeably bigger than I was! The sound had given Karyn some warning, though, and she scooped up the box with the stone. Karyn gulped a little at the new cat, though my nose had already informed me this was mom.
Geeze! My mother was a leopardess! These wishes really had gotten out of hand!
Mom grinned at Karyn in what was probably supposed to be a reassuring manner, then jumped up on my bed, too, making it bounce considerably. She sniffed at me curiously and I felt the urge to bat at her, which I refrained from, though my tail flicked considerably. That seemed to amuse her and she flopped down on the bed beside me and started licking my ears!
I felt my ears flatten in embarassment as Karyn giggled. I wasn't a kitten any more! Uh, I mean, I'd never been a kitten. This was worse than getting my face washed with a hanky and spit!
Karyn giggled some more. "I guess I better go -- see you at school tomorrow, Jonni! Good night, Mrs. Meyers!" She slid out the door and shut it behind her. I realized she was taking the stone with her, but, well... there wasn't much I could do about it now.
I started purring as my mother groomed me some more, then mentally sighed and gave into things for a while. I didn't want to make my mother unhappy, particularly when she was a leopardess! I started grooming her back, which seemed to please her, and settled in for the night.
Tomorrow was Wednesday, and another school day. I could get together with Karyn and we could work something out. Hopefully she knew better than to make any wishes tonight -- not that I would be able to tell since I wouldn't be around to witness them!
