One of the men reached for Mike's wallet, against Mike's useless struggles, and took both it and Nick's purse. As he looked through them, he found Mike's driver's license and said "Hey, boss, he's right. It doesn't say Sullivan here. His name is Mike."
"Doesn't matter," said the boss. "He might know Sullivan, and even if he doesn't, we're not going to let him go to the police explaining that we tried to kidnap him."
"Sure, boss." Rifling through Megan's purse, he continued. "Nothing useful in the girl's purse. Her name's Megan, or at least that's what it says on the credit card. There's also another guy's stuff in here. His wallet and his cell phone. Says the guy's name is Nick Masters. Still no Sullivan, though."
At the sound of that name Mike turned towards Nick and glared at him. Whoops, thought Nick. He had put his own wallet and cellphone in the bag. It was lucky that Megan had left her credit card in the bag since she had taken her own purse with her when she went to work. Maybe it was a card she had just gotten replaced, since it was about to expire next month (in Nick's time).
Anyway, Nick had to do something to get out of this. He had just ran into two magical items, but none of them had been a magic wand or anything that could be used to fight people with guns. There was nothing he could... wait! There was something he could do. He had put on the Amulet of Time to travel to where and when Mike went missing... and he had never taken it off.
Nick concentrated on a time and place....
