He pointed the device at Lucy and pushed the “Personality Swap” button. The button began to flash, but nothing happened.
“I probably have to do it again to somebody else,” Rob mused aloud. “After all, one target couldn't exactly swap with itself.”
He headed downstairs. The front door was open. His mother had gone into the front yard to get the newspaper. The guy who delivered the paper often got it into the bushes somewhere in the gated front yard instead of anywhere near the door. "Should I?" Rob wondered to himself. "Well...I can always swap them back later...if this works."
He aimed the remote at his mother and hit the button again. He felt an odd recoil as he did. He looked down, frowning for a moment. When he looked up, his mother was gone. He poked his head out of the front door, frowning. A few seconds later, his mother came out from behind the bushes on all fours, carrying a newspaper in her mouth, still dressed for work. She came up to Rob, looking up at him innocently, and dropped the newspaper at his feet. He picked it up. "Umm....thanks?" Rob said. This was definitely weird.
An expectant look from his mother indicated he'd forgotten something. What was it? He suddenly realized what it must be. "Good girl," he said. She seemed to accept that and proceeded to wander around the front yard without a care in the world. He picked up the newspaper and turned back into the house. He needed to think about this.
As he entered, he heard the sound of someone coming down the stairs. It was Lucy, now walking on two legs. He stood there, watching her. She headed toward the open door and was starting to close it when she spotted his Mom walking around the yard.
"Who the hell put my clothes on Carol? Rob!?!" Lucy yelled, in a normal sounding adult female voice, putting her paws on her hips in the way his Mom did when angry.
"Uhh, wasn't me." Rob said.
"Well, I just hope Carol hasn't gotten them dirty." Lucy said, hurrying outside. It seemed as if, like promised, no one but him seemed to notice anything was wrong. And even though Lucy should have questioned how what she thought were her clothes would even fit on a human, reality seemed to just adapt to the change. Soon enough, Lucy was wearing his mom's business suit, which fit her perfectly, including a hole in the pants for the tail.
Meanwhile, the now naked Carol ran off after a squirrel. Lucy walked back into the house, closing the door. "Rob, is that our newspaper?"
He nodded, mutely.
"Well, can I have it please?" He handed it to her. "Are you all right this morning?"
"Well, now that you mention it," Rob started.
"You aren't trying to get out of your test today, are you?" Lucy said, a moment away from a scolding tone.
"No," he said. fingering the remote in his pocket.
"Good. School is important." She continued into the kitchen, where Rob's father was finishing a cup of coffee.
"Morning, Lucy," he said, taking the paper from her and giving Lucy a kiss on the lips.
"Morning, sweetie," she said.
