I panicked, momentarily as I realised what I had done and felt the strange blinking sensation, but I relaxed slightly when I looked down at myself and realised that nothing seemed to have changed.
Karyn was staring at me. "Well?"
"Nothing's different."
"What did you always want to be?" she asked, curious.
I thought about it for a moment and realised why the wish had had no effect. "You know, I have no idea at all. I was never one of those kids who grew up wanting to be this or that. I was always pretty happy where I was."
"That would explain it then."
"Maybe, but nontheless, I'm going to be very careful when I finally do decide what I've always wanted to be. I don't want that wish kicking in at an unexpected moment!" I smiled.
Karyn smiled back. "Indeed."
I realised we had had another close call with the rock. I was beginning to think my original thoughts on just getting rid of the thing were the best way forward. The thing was just too dangerous.
Just then the bell for first period rangm breaking my train of thought and we had to hurry into school to make sure we weren't late.
