As Jon's mom was cleaning Jon's room, she began to think about her life and how it had come to this. When she had been younger she had been a real fireball. Men had thrown themselves at her. She had truly loved Jon's dad, but now that he gone she couldn't help but wonder what might have been. She had always thought she would stay vibrant and young forever, but now as a single mom, with a boring job and a mortgage on a house that was, despite her best efforts, falling apart.
She sighed as she sat down on Jon's bed. She lay back against the back board, there was a slight thump as the magic stone fell from it's hiding place. Jon's mom sighed again, this time exasperatedly, that kid of hers, why did he always think that he could hide anything in the lose panel in his head board.
She bent and picked up the rock and looked at it. Why was Jon keeping this thing anyway? It looked like a strangely painted rock. She lay back again and sighed again.
"I used to be so cool, what happened to the good old days? It would be so good if I could just turn back time. Gee I wish I could be young again. I'd never have to worry abou...ow..OW!"
Her entire body was shaking as she began to change. She found she was losing weight, her vagina felt like is was on fire. Her clothes were becoming baggier as she slimmed. Her hair which had been gray was turning brown and soft again, as is grew down her back is soft curls.
In a moment it was over. Jon's mom dropped the stone she had been holding and raised her hands to her face. As she moved her hands down she felt her new young body, her face lit up. She beamed with joy she was young and sexy again, this was her to change her life, now she could redo her life without making the same mistakes again.
She noticed that where she had found the stone was a piece of paper, half hidden under a magazine. She took out the piece of paper and saw that it was a note from her dad (Jon's grandfather) giving Jon instructions to use the stone.
Ahh, she thought. It was a magic wishing stone. That's why what had happened had happened. And the note did explain that changes are made as if they have always been so--except for the people who hear the wish--like the wisher herself. So she should continue to remember the old reality, including all of her experience as Jon's mother. She didn't have to worry about gradually forgetting anything.
She put the stone and paper back where she had found them. No, wait, she needed to do one more thing. If there was a new reality, and she didn't know it... She took the stone and said "I wish that without losing any memories, I'd know how I was expected to act in this new reality."
Finally, she put the items back for real, but she didn't know anything about her new life yet. She took out her cell phone and as soon as she glanced at the names on it, she knew who they were. So the wish did work; she could act as her new self, but she wouldn't remember anything until she needed to to understand something... She wondered where she lived, and as soon as she did the information came to her. She wondered if Jon existed and what his family was, and a bunch of other things, and got her answers.
Then she punched numbers into the phone to call someone...
