"I'm going to share a tent with Mikey." Diane proclaimed.
Mrs. Diver looked confused for a second. "Do you mean Michele, dear?" she asked.
"Yeah, that's what I meant. Mikey is kind of a nickname I'm trying out for her." Diane tried to cover for her momentary slip.
"Okay. Michele, do you mind if Diane calls you Mikey?" Mrs. Diver asked.
"Um... maybe. It's kind of a boy's name though." Mikey said.
"Diane," Mrs Diver said, "It sounds like Michele doesn't really want to be called Mikey." Mrs. Diver was a little confused when all of the girl scouts except Mikey started giggling. "Okay then, Diane and Michele will share one tent and Molly and Heather will share the other. Everybody get your sleeping bags out of the car and get them set up. If you are all done quick enough, we'll roast some marshmallows before going to bed."
At the promise of sugar, the girls scrambled to get their sleeping bag set up in their assigned tents. After all the bedding was arranged, marshmallows were roasted and a couple of campfire stories were told and then it was time to go to sleep.
All of the girls said goodnight to everyone else and made their ways to their tents.
Mikey was about to go to sleep when he heard Diane whispering something to him. "What?" he asked since he hadn't understood what she was saying.
"I said," Diane began again, "you should take the necklace off for a little while. You don't want to be stuck as a girl do you?"
"No." Mikey said quietly. He slipped the magic necklace off and was almost instantly a boy again.
Mikey lay there for a minute and was about to put the necklace back on and become a girl again when Diane stopped him. "Hey Mikey?" she asked, "What is it like to have a penis?"
Mikey was shocked by the question. "You had one of your own for a little while during lunch."
"Yeah, but it's not the same. It's not like I grew up with one." Diane explained.
"Well I don't know how to describe it. It's just always been there, you know?"
"At least until recently." Diane said with a giggle.
"Right. At least until recently. If you don't have anymore questions I can't answer, I'm going to go to sleep." Mikey said rolling over so he was facing away from her.
"Hey, Mikey?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't forget to put the necklace back on before you go to sleep. We don't want Mrs. Diver to come in here in the morning and see that you are a boy."
Mikey did as she said and he was a girl again before his head hit the pillow and he fell asleep.
